Travellers, locals and visitors gather in Volkshotel to work, eat, drink, dance and enjoy art and culture. Project Unexpected aims to broaden Volkshotel’s function as a meeting place by creating a platform for new talent. By asking artists to work on location, their work in progress is seen by a more unexpected audience. Volkshotel will trigger an experiment whilst also investing in creating new artwork.

Carte Blanche
In collaboration with curator Alexandra Landrè, Volkshotel invites three artists: Jana Babincova (Prague, CZ), Sighle Bhreathnach-Cashell (Belfast, IR) and Marcel Hiller (Cologne, DE). During two weeks, they will be provided with food, accommodation, workspace and required materials. The only request is to let the building and the meetings inspire them, beyond that it’s carte blanche.

New makers
With Project Unexpected, Volkshotel wants to connect locals with internationals to build a network of new makers and performers. The ambition is to create a recurring project that invites artists with different backgrounds such as writing, photography or music. The project finishes with an exhibition of which the outcome will remain a surprise. The exhibition opens on 29th August and will be open to the general public for a week. Entrance is free.
