Mick’s Tip: EYE

We ask our Volk to share their favourite Amsterdam spot. From brown bars to pumping parties, who knows what our eclectic mix of characters will recommend… This week: Mick Groeneveld (24 nearly 25) from PR & Communications shares his spot to see a high quality movie: EYE Film Museum. Mick: “You can’t find a place with better sound or visual qualities”.

EYE, also known as ‘the cinematic memory of the Netherlands’, sits in the North side of Amsterdam. It is unique in its shape and its location, the Brooklyn of Amsterdam. Open from 11am to 11pm everyday for anyone who is interested in film and film culture.

The focus is not only on watching a good movie but also film as an art form, as entertainment and as part of digital visual culture. “It has really good quality with sound and visuals as well as a great location. I like that you take a ferry across and also that the view is really nice, it shows a different side of Amsterdam.” Mick explains.

Mick especially recommends going their for an EXPOSED event. “A year ago I worked for EXPOSED which is a young group that works for EYE. They arrange events and openings to exhibitions to attract similar minded people and a younger audience. So if you’re around during an EXPOSED event at I’d recommend to go and check it out”.

EYE currently displays the work of William Kentridge and celebrates a summer of Woody Allen.

He likes to have a good glass of wine with friends and philosophize about the universe and meaning of life but also “nothing beats a good festival”. Looking rad is his vice. “I used to wear dresses as a kid but I kinda grew out of it, now I’m just into long T-shirts”.
