“Eetcafé Carels 3 is the restaurant I always go to with my mum and dad when we are in Amsterdam, they’ve been going there for about 15 years. Service is good, food is good, atmosphere is good and the price is good. That’s why we all like it. It’s just the place you go for proper food, you know like steak, salad and chips.”

Just off the Spui, Eetcafé Carels 3 is directly joined to its brother restaurant Eetcafé t’Pakhuis, it’s a traditional Amsterdam restaurant that has been going since 1975. It prides itself with a cheap daily changing menu, good ribs and cosy atmosphere. The kind of place you just drop in and see, they will always try to make space.
Who’s Frits?
Frits is our IT’s ‘mr fix it’ dealing with all our technology shenanigans, his motto: ‘take out the cable and plug it back in’. Born and bred in Grootebroek (direct translation – big swamp) and proud of it. “It’s a beautiful place – lots of greenery, small canals and home of the football twins Frank & Ronald De Boer.” He explains with honour.

If you’re ever near Grootebroek, Frits suggests a visit to the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen – a museum devoted to preserving the cultural heritage and maritime history of the old region Zuiderzee.
