Museumplein is probably one of the most photographed places in Amsterdam. With a lot happening, not only at the square itself, but also all the way around it, it’s definitely a magnet for a diverse range of people. Ivan: “I really enjoy different cultures, and this is a square that booms with it. It’s very different from my hometown, Rome, there it’s also stuffed with culture, but in a stressful, overwhelming way.”
There’s more to the square than just photographing it. When Ivan has friends over from Italy, he always brings them to museumplein, to enjoy the sun, play some basket, kick a ball, see the Vondelpark or have a picnic. Ivan: “My dog is also in love with this square. It’s probably the place in Amsterdam, where I feel most like I’m at the seaside, because of all the air and space.”
Who’s Ivan?
Ivan is our tattooed philosopher from Rome, who helps out with the housekeeping of our hotel. With plenty of hobbies like surfing in summer, boxing 6 times a week for 2 hours straight, learning Dutch and doing a minimum of 4 city trips a year, it’s amazing how he finds the time to work, but he does, and he sure is good at it.
Ivan has lived in Amsterdam for nearly a year now, coming from Rome, he tells that it’s quite a switch. Ivan: “The reason I chose to go to Amsterdam and for example not London, is because of it’s size. You know, everything is close and at a walking distance here, it makes things really local and easy going. Also the inhabitants are way more fond of their culture, always appreciating it and taking care.”
