Can you tell us a bit about what we can expect during your show?
“You can expect to be taken on a journey to Kigali, where you’ll experience how the Rwandese inhabitants prepare themselves for the arrival of their biggest legend, Stromae. Many people, know very little and mostly negative things about Rwanda. In this performance I will give an insight to the life its population also has, besides all the negative political rumors that are always in the media. Lie down on a bed in a hotel room, and listen while I compose a letter to Stromae. Make sure to get up in time, so we can dance together.”
Why did you get inspired to do a piece about Stromae?
“He is an inspiring artist, I find him the perfect example of the modern European: impossible to put in a box because he is a mixture of everything. Rwanda is his fatherland and people are totally nuts about him, feeling very related to his work and him as a person. I met a lot of inspiring Rwandese people, from fashion designers to musicians. I want to cast a light on this positive side of Rwanda.”
Who’s Emma?
Recently graduated from the conservatorium in Antwerp, Emma already has 2 documentaries, 2 performances and projects in Holland, Belgium and South Africa to show for her. Emma: “My main focus is making documentaries with a twist, I want to make them come to life through live performances or tekst components.” We’re curious to see what’s next!
