Inspired by his love for Belgian style beers and the need to bring them to Amsterdam, Dutch musician Kasper Peterson started an experimental home brewery. Wanting to take his beers to the next level he searched for a place to do it. In 1985 Brouwerij ‘t IJ was born.
The brewery is set up inside an old bath house, still with its original water supply, tiles and steam generator. It is the biggest and best known in Amsterdam and sits beside Netherlands largest wooden windmill.
Floris loves to go there to grab a beer with friends and sit outside when the weather permits: “They produce the best beer in Amsterdam, especially the ‘IJ Wit’. It’s cheap and they do tasters of all the varieties they have, so you can get a little bit drunk.”
Floris (19) lives in Amsterdam and works in our Werkplaats behind the bar both day and night. Floris has an infectious smile and is slightly chaotic.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m in a comedy of my own life, I loose my phone 5 times a day or shut down my bank account when the card is actually just in my pocket. It’s not always a comedy though.”
