Elmar (named after the chef) serves a mix of classic French and Mediterranean dishes but is influenced by many other international cuisines. Choose from smoked pulled pork or artichoke and basil stuffed ravioli or have the surprise chef’s menu, so you don’t have to decide.

Everything here is lovingly homemade, from the breads to the sausages and the biscuits with coffee, with fresh and innovative products. It’s a no fuss but all taste kind of place. You will feel at home here with intimacy, understated decoration and a calm, small terrace spot.
This restaurant needs to be booked as it’s always busy. “I live near there and have passed it so many times, it’s always packed. After reading it got a 9.5 in local newspaper Parool, I decided I had to give it a go. I’m so glad I did, it is one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.” Marieke explains with a really genuine persuasion in her voice.
Who’s Marieke?
Marieke is the breakfast manager in Canvas, she enjoys seeing people from hotel meeting over breakfast and finding the restaurant for the first time. “I like to help people with getting around and give them ideas of how to see real Amsterdam, there’s so much to do in this city”.

She likes meeting new people, reading, laying in her balcony pool and her cats. “I am crazy about cats, it just cost me a lot of money to fix mine, but I love him.”
