Cinekid Festival (7-23 October)
Every autumn holiday Cinekid Festival takes place. It’s one of the largest children’s films and media festivals in the world. Here you see the latest children movies, television productions, media installations, workshops, and tutorials at three different locations in Amsterdam: De Meervaart, Studio/K, and Ketelhuis.
Nature playground Het Woeste Westen
What’s more fun than playing in nature? At playground Het Woeste Westen children will have the time of their life. Reed, tall grass, a spring ditch, a pond with a water pump, hills, tunnels, bushes, a tree climbing course; all the ingredients are there for a good adventure. From June to October children can also borrow a net to hunt for aquatic creatures.
Earth Speakr in Stedelijk Museum
Contemporary art museum Stedelijk offers all kinds of activities for families during the autumn. How about a scavenger hunt via Youtube? Or get started with Olafur Eliasson’s digital artwork Earth Speakr. This artwork invites children to speak up for the planet and adults to listen up to what they have to say.
Theater De Krakeling
At theater De Krakeling children and young people can enjoy a wide variety of theater performances, by well-known theater-makers as well as new, promising theater talents. From 9 to 18 October you can visit the theater every day for special stories, dance, theater, and music.
Restaurant Pompet is located in the Noorderpark, in Amsterdam-Noord. This intimate café-restaurant with French cuisine has a spacious terrace and a beautiful view of the park. Best of all, while you enjoy your drink, the children can play at the jeu de boules court or the natural sandbox.
NEMO is an interactive and informal science museum in which children come into contact with science and technology. Here you can see, hear, and experience how scientific phenomena and technology play an important part in our lives. Tip: don’t forget to check out the rooftop, where the highest city square in the Netherlands is located.
Pancake farm Meerzicht
This farm is the perfect place to enjoy pancakes after a walk in the Amsterdamse Bos. With 55 types of pancakes on the menu, there is something to everyone’s liking. Done eating? Time to hit the adjacent playground and animal meadow with deer, peacocks, and chickens.
Next to the Artis zoo, you’ll find Micropia. This place is all about the invisible world of micro-organisms. Children will learn, among other things, what microbes are and how they are used in the making of various products from food to biofuels. There are also a variety of fun activities to do, like making your own collection of your favorite microbes.
You probably already knew that the books of ‘Het Muizenhuis’ are a big hit among children (and parents), but did you also know that you can visit the actual mouse mansions in the middle of the Jordaan? In this shop and workshop, you can admire the various creations that have been specially made for the book series.
