Starting the first of April, you’ll transform one of our conference rooms into a yoga studio three times a week. What kind of yoga will you be teaching?
My lessons are a fusion between Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin yoga. Because of my bubbly personality – the lessons tend to get fun and playful. What you get out of it differs from one person to another: it can either be rest, strength, trust, flexibility, courage or balance. Yoga is all about being conscious of your mind, body, breath, thoughts and emotions.
You’ve told us that your classes are suitable for both beginners as experienced yogis. How do you manage to do this?
Before becoming a yoga teacher, I’ve been teaching sports in primary schools and high schools. When you work with groups of 30 kids, you work with 30 different levels and wishes. This is where I’ve learned to differentiate. When it comes to yoga, what is going on inside is all that matters. The main thing is not to take it too seriously and just join in, smile, try new things and have fun.
Why do you think you and Volkshotel are a good match?
It’s a lively place where a lot of different people come together: international guests, business people, students and start-ups. For me, Volkshotel equals freedom – where everybody is free to be who he or she wants to be. This is exactly what I stand for in my yoga classes. I like the way in which different people, with different backgrounds come together. In yoga, everybody is equal and unique at the same time. Everybody is welcome!
Mareille Outshoorn (37) is practically our neighbour, living only 5 minutes away from Volkshotel. She has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and is a teacher in yoga schools and ‘on location’ at places like ‘De Buurtboer’ and the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra. When Mareille’s not working she likes to surf in the sun, travel and explore. Swing in her hammock, hang out with friends, or take her long board and head off to the Diemerpark – a piece of wild nature close to Amsterdam.
