Merel’s Tip: T.I.T.S.

Each week, our inside volk give their best tips on where to go in Amsterdam. This week, our PR & Communications assistant Merel tips her favourite shop: T.I.T.S. in Amsterdam West. Don’t let the name fool you; it has nothing to with pornography. Merel: “This store dares to be quirky, and will definitely put a smile on your face.”

T.I.T.S (short for This is the Shit) has a clear mission: to stay away from brands and styles that are sold in any other concept store in Amsterdam. Mathilde and Nathalie, the young owners of the store, are always looking for new designers, different accessories and just general cool stuff. They focus on new American and Scandinavian brands, like Lazy Oaf and The White Pepper. According to Merel, their mission succeeded: “T.I.T.S. has a collection of clothes and accessories you won’t find anywhere else in Amsterdam.”

Merel discovered T.I.T.S. when cycling home after work: “I pass by this shop every day, and love to walk in and get inspired by all their prints, colors and weird accessories. But I’m quite a bad customer  I guess, I hardly ever buy anything because it’s just a bit above my student-budget. I just dream about buying everything.”

Last but not least: In the back of the store, you can even order a cup of coffee – which can be quite convenient when shopping with your mum or boyfriend.

Who’s Merel?
Although she’s only 21, Merel has seen and done a lot in her life. From a young age, she has always loved to explore and go on new adventures, from moving to a Danish boarding school at the age of 16 to working in television in Sweden. Before moving to Amsterdam, she lived in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Berlin.

Merel has been working at Volkshotel since September 2015, assisting the PR & Communications department. With her creative pen and social mind, she’s a star at writing blogposts and guiding press. Merel may come across as a dreamy and sweet girl, but she’s a true gangster at heart – not afraid of anything and anyone.
