Shahaira’s Tip: Blijburg Beach

We ask our Volk to share their favourite Amsterdam spot. From brown bars to pumping parties, who knows what our eclectic mix of characters will recommend… This week: our reception and reservations colleague, Shahaira Defoe shares her spot to catch the last of the summer sun: Blijburg aan Zee. Shahaira: “It’s small, cosy and unique.”

Blijburg has been around for 10 years and has moved 3 times since it started, but now after some renovation and persistance it has a permanent place on IJburg- Pampuslaan. Not only a sandy beach, it also hosts art and cultural projects, a chill-vibe restaurant, small market stalls and even a ‘chapel’, where couples regularly get married.

Who’s Shahaira?
With 3 jobs, 2 children and 1 fitness instructor partner, Shahaira is a “busy body”. She’s also one of our receptionists. Always wearing a smile and oozing energy, it’s clear why one of her other jobs is a kids party planner.

During her busy schedule, Shahaira works out in her gym in the attic. Her other hobby, on the contrary, is eating as many desserts as possible with her equally energetic friend.
