Christmas window drawing by Studio Doeke

Hotel

It’s almost Christmas! And to get in the holiday spirit, we asked artist Doeke van Nuil (Studio Doeke) to cover our ground floor windows. Here’s what he came up with.

« When I was approached by Volkshotel to make Christmas illustrations I knew that I didn’t want to make anything  goody-goody », says Doeke. « I like to provoke people a little bit with my work, so I got the idea to create a sort of Christmas-fight. Expectations are always super high for Christmas, so I wanted to play with that ».

He ended up with a scene with two neighbors who are arguing about a Christmas tree, the annoying little nephew who keeps throwing Christmas ornaments and that drunk friend who can’t stop flirting with everyone. « Because that’s also part of Christmas. Of course Christmas is mainly fun and cosy, so I did put some sweet elements in my drawing », he says.

The illustrations are drawn with big fat markers so you can spot them from far away. « It was quite a task, because the windows are so large but I had a lot of fun! »
