Starting as a girl with a dream of sharing all the clothes she liked with all the women in the world, Anouk Buziau opened her first boutique. Her success grew and she quickly opened “Gesponnen Suiker” in the charming Amsterdam Oud-West. “Gesponnen Suiker” means candyfloss in English, which says quite a lot about the shop, they offer unique girly clothes, hand picked by Anouk herself. Recently celebrating their 5 year existence in such good style that it created queues around all street corners.

Go there to get a complete “Sex and the City” outfit or just a small present for one of your girlfriends. Nothing is overpriced and if you are lucky enough there will be some delicious cupcakes served along with a cup of tea in a porcelain cup.

Amsterdam Oud-West has a lot more to offer than just Gesponnen Suiker. It is stuffed with shops, restaurants, bars and markets and is definitely a real local magnet. Janneke: “I love this part of town, there are so many interesting small shops and cafés, you can spend a whole day wandering and avoid all big retail stores.”
Who’s Janneke?
Janneke (31) is our PR & Communications queen and has been with Volkshotel from the very beginning. Anything to do with letters, text, press or social media, she’s got it covered! (Not this particular piece though.)

Apart from being a happy and quite humorous girl she is also a DJ for Beyonslay. Together with Mick, Canvas’ PR king, she creates a unique mix of Beyonce and Slayer. They’ve already had a few gigs and gathered quite some followers (17 in total), definitely worth checking out!

How to get there from Volkshotel
Get on tram 3 towards Zoutkeetsgracht. When at the “Overtoom” stop, get out and follow the tram by foot until you see a canal. Here you turn left and walk until you see the shop on your right.
P.S. remember to check out Beyonslay right here!
