Illustrator Jip Piet was one of the key figures in the creation of the current visual identity of Doka. His work can be best described as vibrant and detailed, with abundant imagery and a good dose of humor. With his latest project, he draws “evil people” on-demand to make ends meet. Color Me
Saša Ostoja is an illustrator with a distinctive, signature style of naïvely drawn animal characters in humorous, dangerous, or uncomfortable situations. Often with unexpected dark undertones. For Volkshotel he made several illustrations, for instance on our soap and shampoo bottles. For the occasion, Saša published a coloring book for anyone who needs it in this period of time. Livingroom to livingroom yoga
Our yoga teacher Mareille wanted to continue her weekly yoga lessons in Volkshotel so badly, that she started a live stream via her Youtube channel. From the hotel she gives a variety of lessons that are available for free. You can also make a donation if you feel like it.

Plokta TV
Plokta is a movie festival that revolves around technology and society. Last ADE they screened the documentary ‘Synthetic Pleasures‘ (1995) in Doka. This month Plokta was supposed to have it’s very first edition, but due to the corona crisis this has been postponed. Meanwhile, they invented Plokta TV, because the show must go on. Plokta TV connects works and creators from around the world, exploring technologies and their effects on society, for better or worse.

Distance Disco
Kiss your social distance blues goodbye, because Distance Disco is coming. It’s a quirky social experiment and it combines a dance party with a game. There is one simple rule: you have to find the person who’s dancing to your own song. It’s launching very soon, currently inviting small groups to help test and develop the game. Sign up for updates about the launch or to be part of a beta test. Distance Disco is initiated and created by Amsterdam based independent and interactive artists Mark Meeuwenoord, Arjan Scherpenisse, and Klasien van de Zandschulp. The latter is also one of the organizers of Live Coding Sessions in Doka.

Vitamine C
Cinneville was one of the partners we worked with for Short Movie Sunday. If you thought they were just sitting back during the time all the cinemas are closed, think twice. They came up with Vitamine C, a streaming platform where you can watch the latest arthouse movies and some all-time classics. It makes quarantine a lot more bearable, we can say.
