Eetcafe van Beeren is a stones throw away from the Nieuwmarkt. It’s a small, casual restaurant serving good, hearty Dutch food, with a Mediterranean twist. You can dine in the cosy candlelit bar or the romantic courtyard (when the sun finally shines). Be there early, this place gets busy.
Matthias loves the attention from the staff and the hidden peacefullness of Eetcafe van Beeren. He recommends the Saltimbocca, for those who don’t know, that’s veal and sage wrapped in bacon… ‘In fact, I recommend choosing it any chance you get, in every restaurant. That’s what I do!’.
Matthias works in Canvas as our shiftleader, with the nickname Rooie Jos – a ginger figure in a Dutch documentary Foute Vrienden. He’s our big friendly giant, with a smile to his ears and the personality of a carebear.
Although Matthias’ surname ‘de Weerd’ would suggest that he has some strange tendencies, he seems quite the contrary… ‘I’m just not that wierd’. And we have to say, we agree, he’s perfectly normal and we just love him.
