Volks Tip: Loetje

We ask our Volk to share their favourite Amsterdam spot. From brown bars to pumping parties, who knows what our eclectic mix of characters will recommend… This week: Our handyman and banqueting runner, Alex Dielemans (23) shares one of his favourite places for a good, juicy steak: Loetje in our own neighbourhood in East. “Nothing beats a good piece of steak.”

Fancy a steak tenderloin? with or without fries, onions or mushrooms? and an extra portion of gravy please! Loetje has it all, claiming to serve the best steak in the country. Opening its first place near Museumplein over 35 years ago, it became famous after the owner gave a demonstration on how to fry steak on television.

Loetje has a few locations in Amsterdam, including around the corner from Volkshotel on the Ruyschstraat, but Alex’s favourite local is in Ouderkerk ‘Loetje Ouderkerk aan de Amstel’. “It’s a cosy cafe/bar, with easy going vibe and the place to go for an informal steak.” Alex explains in his laid back manner. No two Loetjes are the same but the steaks remain consistent and tasty.

An XL 280 gram steak or calves liver with bacon and onion, the menu is simple and traditional, Alex recommends the Bali Steak: steak with hot sauce, “it speaks for itself, perfect amount of hot and tasty.”

Who’s Alex?
Alex is our young and outgoing handyman and banqueting muscles. He’s a bit of a ladies man “you really think I’m a ladies man?” he says with his cheeky smile and blushing slightly.
